Are prop firms legit? How to verify one yourself, check by check

Whether a prop firm is legit is something you can check rather than take on trust. Here are eight checks you can run yourself before you pay, with WhitePips as the worked example, including where it is new and what it is not.

Checking, not trusting

"Are prop firms legit?" is a fair question, and the useful answer is a method rather than a verdict. A prop firm that is what it says it is will let you check each part of its offer before you pay: who runs it, what the rules are, what it costs and how payouts work. The checks below take an evening, and you can run them on any firm. We run each one on WhitePips as the example, including the places where WhitePips is new or where the honest answer is "no".

For the warning signs to watch for while you check, read Prop firm red flags. This article is the hands-on part.

Check 1: find the legal entity and its registration

Look for a company name, a registration number and a registered office, and check that the same details appear in the Terms of Service.

At WhitePips: WhitePip FX Ltd., an International Business Company registered in Saint Lucia, Registration No. 2026-00645. Registered office: Unit 1, La Place Creole Building, Rodney Village, Rodney Bay, Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia. Office: Business Center, Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, Sharjah, UAE. The company line is in the footer of every page and in the Terms of Service.

Check 2: ask whether it is regulated, and read what it says

A simulated-account prop firm is not a broker. Look for a firm that says so clearly rather than one that leaves it vague.

At WhitePips: it is not a broker and is not authorised or regulated by a financial services regulator, and the Terms of Service state this. You never deposit trading funds; you pay a one-off fee for an account. The protections that cover regulated brokerage, such as investor compensation schemes, do not apply. Is WhitePips legit? answers this and the other questions people ask about a new firm.

Check 3: read every rule before you pay

Every rule that can end an account should be written down with its exact figure, on every plan and size, before checkout, not discovered afterwards.

At WhitePips: Trading rules, explained lists every rule with its figure and a drawing, and names the practices the risk desk reviews by hand. The full text is the Trading Rules. Test it: pick a plan and a size, and find its Max Daily Loss, Max Loss and position limit in under a minute.

Check 4: confirm the price and what is on top of it

The price should be printed per plan and size, stated as one-off or recurring, with anything extra named.

At WhitePips: every plan and size is on Compare every plan. The fee is one-off. Add-ons you choose and the payment provider's processing fee are added on top, and you see the total before you confirm. Commission per market is published too: on Edge and Instant, forex $5, metals $6 and energies $6 per lot round turn, indices and stocks free, crypto 0.06% of the trade value; lower on Prime. Every instrument is on Symbols and commission.

Check 5: read the payout policy, not the payout headline

A written payout policy should say who can be paid, what is checked, which methods exist and what can reduce or hold a payout. Be careful with any promise of how quickly money arrives: arrival depends on banks and blockchain networks, which no firm controls.

At WhitePips: the Payout Policy sets it out. Every request gets an automatic receipt confirming it has been received (section 8.5) and is paid by the method on file for your account (section 9.5). It also says, in writing, that WhitePips may verify a request against the Terms and the Trading Rules and refuse one that breaches them (section 9.1), and that no arrival time is promised (section 10.4).

Check 6: look for payouts you can verify

A payout claim is only worth something if it can be checked.

At WhitePips: every payout paid comes with a certificate whose verification code opens on whitepips.com, so a payout can be checked rather than taken on trust. WhitePips does not publish payout totals or pass rates.

Check 7: log in to the platform yourself

A firm should name the platform you trade on, and you should be able to log in and see your own prices, fills and history.

At WhitePips: CFDs run on MetaTrader 5 (web, desktop, iPhone and Android); futures run on Volumetrica with dxFeed market data. After identity approval you can start one free Edge 1 Step $100K CFD account for 14 days under the paid rules. It never funds or pays out, but you see the platform and the dashboard before you spend anything.

Check 8: weigh the track record honestly

Age and independent reviews matter, and a new firm has little of either.

At WhitePips: it opened in 2026 and whitepips.com was registered in August 2026, so there is little written about it yet. Automated website checkers score young domains low, and AI assistants can only repeat what has been written. That is the absence of a track record, not a finding either way. The WhitePips profile on Trustpilot is claimed; as a new firm it has few reviews so far. How to read forex prop firm reviews explains what to look for in one.

How to test with the least at stake

If the checks above pass for you, the cheapest way to build your own record is a small account. At WhitePips the smallest are the Edge 2 Step $2.5K at $32 and, on futures, the One Step $25K at $81. Verify your identity early, trade it to the rules, and request a payout once the plan's conditions are met.

If anything WhitePips publishes does not match what happens on your account, write to [email protected] and quote the page. Everything above is also on one page in Facts and on Transparency. Accounts are simulated, and trading leveraged products carries a high risk of loss.

Educational content, not financial advice. Trading carries risk and most people who attempt an evaluation do not pass it. Accounts are simulated; the rules that bind yours are the ones printed on your plan and in the trading rules.
