## Key takeaways

1. **Depth of market.** The ladder of resting bids and offers around the current price.
2. **Volume profile.** Volume distributed by price rather than by time.
3. **The tape.** Individual trades as they print, with size and side.
4. **Using it inside a funded account's rules.** The futures line runs on Volumetrica, which carries volume profile and order-flow tooling as standard, with its market data arriving over a dxFeed connection.

Order-flow tools show the market's plumbing: the resting orders at each price, the volume that actually traded at each level, and the sequence of transactions as they print. On the futures line that data is genuine exchange data, which is what makes any of it worth reading.

It is also the area where traders most reliably talk themselves into seeing things, so it is worth being precise about what each tool can and cannot support.

## Depth of market

The ladder of resting bids and offers around the current price. It shows where participants have currently placed orders — and it is the least reliable of the three, because resting orders are free to cancel and a great many of them are cancelled before they trade.

A large visible offer is not a wall. It is an intention that costs nothing to withdraw, and it frequently is. Read depth as a picture of the current moment, never as a forecast.

## Volume profile

Volume distributed by price rather than by time. This is the more durable of the tools, because it records transactions that actually occurred and cannot be retracted.

Its useful output is structural: prices where a great deal traded tend to attract price back, and prices where very little traded tend to be crossed quickly. That is a description of where the market has already agreed on value, and it is a reasonable basis for placing a level. It is not a signal, and it does not tell you direction.

> Depth is an intention and can be cancelled. Volume is a transaction and cannot. Weight them accordingly.

## The tape

Individual trades as they print, with size and side. At speed it is genuinely unreadable, and the honest use is coarse: whether trade is arriving in a hurry or not, and whether size is being taken at the offer or hit at the bid over a stretch of time.

Anything more granular than that — reading a specific print as a specific participant doing a specific thing — is pattern-matching on noise. Large orders are routinely split into small ones precisely so that they cannot be read this way.

## Using it inside a funded account's rules

- Use it to place, not to decide. Order flow is good at improving the entry and the stop on a trade your strategy already justified, and poor at justifying the trade.
- Do not let it shorten your stops below what the instrument's noise requires. A level that looks precise on a footprint chart is still inside the same range of random movement.
- Remember the granularity. Futures move in whole contracts, so a tighter entry does not license a larger position unless the arithmetic against your daily limit still works.
- Watch it around the times you are flat. It is most instructive in conditions you have chosen not to trade, and it costs nothing to study there.

The futures line runs on Volumetrica, which carries volume profile and order-flow tooling as standard, with its market data arriving over a dxFeed connection. The data is the same data the exchange publishes; what you take from it is the part that varies.
